Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare to carry out sewing work
   • Job requirements are determined from workplace instructions
   • Components are identified and materials selected and inspected for quality
   • Hazards associated with the work are identified and risks are managed
   • Sewing tools and equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) are selected and checked for serviceability
   • Work area is prepared and work is planned to minimise waste and use time efficiently
2. Sew automotive or marine components and trim
   • Sewing machine is set up correctly and adjustments are made during sewing operations
   • Hand and machine sewing operations are carried out according to workplace instructions and safety and environmental requirements
   • Sewing activities are completed within workplace timeframes
3. Complete work processes
   • Final inspection is made to ensure work meets workplace expectations and component is presented ready for use
   • Work area is cleaned, waste and non-recyclable materials are disposed of, and recyclable material is collected and stored
   • Tools and equipment are checked, reported if faulty, and stored according to workplace procedures
   • Workplace documentation is processed according to workplace procedures
